Looking back on all of the amazing weddings from last year, it was obvious to us that this was a year of travel weddings for us! We only ended up visiting 18 different wedding venues in 2024, but a good chunk of them were new for us. Getting to do most of our work in the beautiful mountain areas of Asheville and Jackson Hole, we’re pretty spoiled. Both locations are popular destinations for couples and wedding photographers alike. People ask us all the time if it ever gets old, and the answer is always no, but I will say if I’m being honest, you do get used to it. It’s not to say an epic sunset on the horizon doesn’t get us excited anymore; it’s like seeing your favorite movie again. With this year having such a variety of venues, climates, terrains, etc., we had a blast getting to explore new places, use different backdrops and compositions, and connect with new folks everywhere we went! One of our favorite travel weddings from this past year was Ashley and Christian’s big day at Hill House in Durham, NC!
We first connected with these lovelies for their engagement in the fall of 2023! They picked one of our all time favorite mountain locations for their engagement session, Craggy Gardens Pinnacle trail! For those unfamiliar with this beautiful locations it’s off the Blue Ridge Parkway about 40 minutes outside of Asheville. There is a moderately strenuous hike to the top but if you have the ability, it’s definitely worth your time. It’s also what we jokingly call our 50/50 location. Meaning, about half of the time it’s perfect, and then half of the time, the views are blocked by the clouds. As luck would have it on the day of their engagement, it would be the latter half of that 50/50. It didn’t even matter, Ashley and Christian crushed it for their engagement! It gave us that first opportunity not only to get to know them, but get to know them as a couple. Let’s just say their chemistry on camera dynamite! Ashley’s sweet demeanor shined through and Christian being such a gentleman made for a perfect night in the mountains, no matter what plans the weather had in store.
Leading up to their wedding, we could tell how excited Ashley and Christian for their special day! We were in touch throughout that year leading up to October and Ashley had everything planned out to a T. When we arrived we were stoked about the historical charm of their venue! We got there a few minutes early to get in a few laps and learn the lay of the land. Serving as the family home for the original owners, The Hills House has taken on a new identity over the years becoming a charming event space for couples and their families. All of this, while maintaining their historical roots, much of which is on display within the Hill House throughout. The day was everything we had imagined it to be. It was full of laughter amongst friends, happy tears throughout, and many close connections with loved ones! It was one we can’t help but smile when looking back and one we hope you’ll enjoy as you follow along!
